Broke in Love

Where are my divorcees at who still broke in love? The whole companionship thesis folded into a pun: broke in the wallet, broke in the chest — both barrels, three words. Said into the dark at 2am for everyone on the same frequency: the ones still up, the ones doing the morning school run, the ones with an empty account and a heart still half-stuck on somebody. Not a sad post — a flag. It takes the ache and turns it into company for the reader beside you — the McKendry move: word the hurt out loud so the next person doesn’t have to carry it wordless. Broke in love is a real currency; it just pays in “me too” instead of dollars. The section’s never empty — they’re out there, same as you, up too late and still believing it comes back. (His coin.)
