Text only.
Decoration off, words up. Strip the museum to its writing — same words, same rules, no paint. The audio clause's twin: if the paint never lands for someone, the gold still does.
What it is
Text-only mode strips the visual layer of the whole site — no images, no animations, no gradients, no shadows. The font becomes a calm serif on a near-black background, the column narrows to about 68 characters wide, and the words carry the meaning. It sticks across every page until you turn it off.
Why this exists
Three reasons, stacked:
- Accessibility. Screen readers, low-vision, dyslexia, motion sensitivity, low bandwidth, sunlight on a phone — the paint isn't the point in any of those cases. The text is. This mode hands you the text.
- The literacy game in reverse. The site is a reading game (and one of the OHS thesis lines is that literacy is the floor). Strip the paint and only the writing remains; if the writing doesn't hold, nothing on the painted page was holding anything else either.
- The audio clause's twin. The site aims at an audio-only version too — the bones must speak. Text-only is the same idea read by the eye instead of the ear. Audio for ears, text-only for eyes, full museum for the rest. Same gold; different doors.
The four doors
The little silver ; pinned bottom-right of every page is a button. Tap it and the museum switches modes. It is also the house's signature watermark — every screenshot carries it.
The ♿ button (top-right of every page) opens the accessibility panel. Text-only reading is the second option, right under Read this page aloud. Sticks, labeled, no sigil required.
Every page footer now ends with a Text only link. Same toggle, where your eye already lives at end-of-page.

The honest limit
This is AAA by aspiration (the house's standing line on accessibility): never claimed certified, gaps named honestly, the floor is the most accessible possible, not the most accessible imaginable. If you find something that breaks in text-only mode, that's the report we want — the lie-detector rule applies to the accessibility too. Tell us, and we fix it.
What it does NOT do
- It does not stop the music typing game from making sound (that is the game). For sound-off, use your system mute.
- It does not change what any page says — only how the page is dressed.
- It does not require any account, any download, any data leaving your device. The toggle lives in your browser's local storage. Off the book.
