Why I Think MAHA Is a Lie

This one is mine. It's an opinion, and it lives on the opinion page, marked as opinion — because the one rule still holds even when I'm angry. Here's the opinion: you can't brand your way to health.

You fund the floor, or you don't. Everything else is a slogan.

What the words say
MAHA — "Make America Healthy Again."

Start with the plain fact, so we're arguing about the same thing. MAHA stands for "Make America Healthy Again" — a health banner of the second Trump administration. That much is just what the letters mean. Everything after this paragraph is my read of it, and I'll mark it that way the whole way down. I'm not telling you what to think. I'm telling you what I think, and showing my work.

Why I think it's a lie
Health isn't a brand. It's the boring floor.

Real health is the least glamorous thing there is. It's not a supplement line, a podcast, a photo in a gym, or a word with a flag next to it. It's the floor under the body: prevention, movement, clean food, clean water, a warm place to move, a covered gym a broke person can walk into for free. The cheap, upstream, unsexy stuff that means the crisis never comes. A movement that is actually about health funds that floor. A movement that brands health while the floor stays starved is selling you the word and keeping the thing.

That's my whole test, and it's a simple one: did the floor get funded, or did it get cut? Slogans don't answer that. The record does.

Especially the rich
They already own most of the floors money can buy.

Here's the part that makes me call it a lie instead of a mistake. The obscenely rich do not need "America" to get healthy again — they already are, privately, behind a gate. Concierge doctors. Private trainers. The chef, the trainer, the clinic on call. They bought the floor for themselves a long time ago. So when the very richest men in the country put "health" on a hat, I don't hear a man fixing a broken thing. I hear a man selling the nostalgia of a "healthy again" that was only ever healthy for people like him.

And the old book already called this shot. The line about a camel through the eye of a needle (Matthew 19:24) isn't an insult — it's a warning about how hard it is to see straight from up there. It is genuinely difficult to fix a floor you have never once had to stand on.

The discipline I hold on myself
I score the record, not the man.

I will not draw any man as a monster — that's the exact move I condemn when it's aimed at a whole people. So I'm not telling you Donald Trump is evil, and I'm not telling you the rich are evil. They're human; the floor covers them too, or it isn't a floor. But dignity is not immunity. The floor protects the person; it does not protect the record. And on the record — party-blind — my question stands and it does not go away: was the health floor for ordinary people funded, or was it cut while the word "health" got louder? Read the file. Score that. Not the hat.

Don't score the slogan. Score the record. That's the only health test that doesn't lie.
