The truth is the middle

Two truths in one line, and they cut both ways. The honest read usually lives in the middle — not the mushy no-opinion shrug (that's still the only real loss, per the Art of Debate), but the earned, nuanced, un-tribal position that refuses both jerseys. And the middle is exactly where a person gets forgotten: the middle child, the moderate, the one who won't pick a side gets lost in the pile while the two loud ends take all the light. So the bravest place to stand is also the loneliest — the price of being right where truth actually is. The house plants its flag there on purpose and keeps the lamp lit for whoever's standing in the same middle. Kin: they won't let you choose gray, the Gray Star, the Defense of the Devil's Advocate, the shrug in the middle (its opposite: engaged nuance, never apathy). (His coin — machine's read, refine to his.)
