🔞 This room is 18+. It's one long grown-up joke about the subscription economy — nothing here is for you yet, and honestly the joke isn't that good. The rest of the museum is wide open: the music game is better than anything in this room anyway.

In Search of Better Subs

TL;DRBehind the 18+ gate: a slightly indecent economics lecture about the subscription economy.

A slightly indecent economics lecture. You were warned at the door; the double-entendre is the whole thesis, so let's not pretend we're above it. America has a sub problem, and it's not the fun kind.

The worst dom in America

Think about what your subscriptions actually do to you. They take from you monthly. They ignore you the rest of the time. They raise the price without asking. They make leaving as hard as legally possible — retention flows, cancellation mazes, "are you SURE?" screens designed by people with psychology degrees and no shame. They know everything about you and share nothing about themselves. That's not a service relationship. That's the worst dom in the country, and forty million households signed up without reading the contract — which, to be fair, is the most authentically submissive thing America does.

Here's the indecent part, said plainly

The kink community — the actual one, the one with rules — would never tolerate what your streaming bundle does to you. Over there, everything is negotiated up front. Limits are stated and respected. Consent is enthusiastic, ongoing, and revocable at any second. And above all: the safeword works. Say it once and everything stops, no questions, no retention flow, no "before you go, here's 40% off." The kinkiest thing in America isn't behind any age gate — it's a Terms of Service agreement, and unlike this page, nobody who signed it was asked their age, their limits, or their word.

Your streaming service has no safeword. This is a museum with the word CANCEL carved over every door.

In search of better subs

So here's the reversal, same as every reversal in this house: be a better sub — to better doms. Subscribe to things that know your name. Things that stop the moment you say stop. Things where the terms are readable, the price is honest (ours opens on π and says so), and leaving is one button that actually works. Your fourth streaming service takes $15.99 a month and doesn't know you exist; the people's seat already said the rest — cancel the dumbest one and point it at something that would exist because of you. Warm water in your town. A museum that stays free. One more that actually matters.

Why I pay for models

Say it out loud and it's the oldest joke in the book — "I pay for models" has been a punchline since before the internet existed. Fine. Let it be the joke for one sentence. Then land it clean, the way this whole house lands every joke it borrows: I pay for the best text; you pay for silicon. No shame in either one — that's just what the money actually buys, said plainly instead of snickered at.

The aftercare section

Every scene ends with aftercare — that's the rule that makes the whole thing humane. So here's yours: no shame in any of it. Not in the subscriptions (we all have them), not in the joke (you laughed), not in the community borrowed for the metaphor (they run their contracts more honestly than the Fortune 500, which was the entire point). The dignity is the floor in every room of this house, including this one. Now go check your bank statement for the sub you forgot — that's the real walk of shame.

The sober companion: the same consent-is-the-gold-standard argument, made straight — the switch as the devil's advocate made flesh, and the one line that is the whole floor: no shame in sex work; the shame is in not listening. Read The Switch.

18+ by the house gate, and the gate is honest: the joke is mild, but it's a grown-up's joke and the kids' museum is better without it. No shame aimed at any community — the consent culture referenced here is borrowed as the good example, which it is. The critique aims at corporate retention design, never at any human's private life. One joke, zero lies; the dignity is the floor. ;
